Esther Rubio

Esther L. Rubio, Chair – is the Director of Head Start for the Monterey County Office of Education. Esther holds a Master of Public Administration from Golden Gate University and is a trained facilitator. She currently serves on the Monterey County Child Care Planning Council, Hermana Scholarship Committee, Salinas-Kushikino Sister City Association, League of United Latin American Citizens and is a Member of the Women’s Fund and the All-Star High School Soccer Game. Esther has a long history of community service and involvement in organizations which promote health and education. She strongly believes that providing affordable housing opportunities to Central Coast residents will empower them to become invested in their homes and communities. 

Sheri L. Cline

Sheri L. Cline, Vice President– is the Vice President/Branch Manager for Pacific Valley Bank. Sheri is a board member of Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley, a board member of Action Council of Monterey County (ACMC), board member of Central Coast Center for Independent Living (CCCIL), Salinas Northeast Rotarian, is a security volunteer for the California International Airshow Salinas, and is a parent volunteer at Notre Dame High School. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Los Padres Elementary and Madonna del Sasso PTA. Sheri supports CHISPA’s mission of providing safe and affordable housing to residents of the Central Coast.

Tom Huffman

Tom Huffman, Treasurer – is the Distribution Manager for Driscoll’s Strawberry. Tom resides in Salinas and is very interested in ensuring that there are affordable housing opportunities available for local workers, families and seniors. 

Kalah Bumba

Kalah Renwick Bumba – is retired and lives in Salinas.  Prior to her retirement, Kalah was the Project Coordinator for the Salinas Senior Center.  The Salinas Senior Center will be a one-stop Senior Center where seniors and their caregivers can have access to service and activities to enhance their independence, health and well-being.  Kalah was previously the Director of the Monterey County Area Agency on Aging, the lead agency in Monterey County for funding of services to older adults.  She holds a Masters of Science degree in Community Health Planning & Administration from the University of Cincinnati and a Certificate in Gerontology from San Jose State University.  Kalah is actively involved with the American Cancer Society and Legal Services for Seniors.  She has always had an interest in affordable housing and strongly believes that no one should have to live in substandard housing or be homeless.

Rodney Evans

Rodney Evans – is a manufacturer’s representative for Pacific Architectural Marketing and a resident of King City.  Rodney was a member of the Greenfield Planning Commission for ten years.  Rodney earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronic Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He has been involved in the construction industry for more than 25 years and in the entitlement process for ten years.  Rodney is actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America.  He is interested in ensuring that affordable housing is available for people that would otherwise not be able to afford the cost of purchasing or renting a home.

Steve Holett

Steve Holett – is a Deputy District Attorney with the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.  Steve has worked as a prosecutor in both the Consumer and Environmental Protection Division and general criminal division of the DA's office . Steve holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Western State University Law School and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Cal State University Fullerton. Steve previously worked at the Orange County District Attorney's Office and in private practice as a Construction Defect Defense and Insurance Coverage Civil Attorney.  Steve has over 10 years experience in construction and insurance law. Steve received a Prosecutor of the Year Award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving. He is interested in eliminating unsafe and environmentally dangerous housing and replacing it with safe and affordable housing for workers and seniors on the Central Coast.

Aurelio Gonzalez

Aurelio Gonzalez– is a Resource Teacher at North Salinas High School.  Aurelio has been in education for over 30 years as a teacher and an administrator.  He has worked various school districts in Salnas and Watsonville.  Aurelio holds a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts Degree in School Administration.  For the past 20 years Aurelio has been actively involved with LULAC Council 2055, Salvation Army and the American Cancer Society.  He has been affiliated with the California Association of Bilingual Educators, Association of California School Administrators and the California League of Middle Schools.  He also serves as a Board member for Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas (CSVS).  Aurelio strongly supports CHISPA's mission in finding ways to provide affordable housing to those less fortunate.

Nancy Valdez

Nancy Valdez– is the Community Health Initiatives Manager for the American Cancer Society, Silicon Coast Region.  Nancy was previously employed as the Youth Director for California LULAC. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies from California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB).  Nancy is actively involved in the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and serves on the board of the Central Coast Center for Independent Living (CCCIL).  She is interested in the empowerment of people and understanding the importance of advocacy for those who are underserved.  Nancy would like to see people in teh community become empowered to improve their own families' lives so that they can advocate for themselves.
